News from the past week
- Twitter’s war on misinformation. Twitter has continued to back up their recent pledge to fight against the spread of misinformation with action by flagging tweets with inaccurate and misleading content and alerting users with a prompt when something has been disputed.
- The reality of reopening. The false promise of reopening has hurt small businesses more than anything else, as people are still uncomfortable going to public places amidst the pandemic. Even as doors open, few are walking through them, making overhead costs pointless.
- Tech Stress. The tech world in Silicon Valley feels exhausted from working from home, with nearly 70% of workers feeling more burnt out than they did when they were working in the office.
- Shorter songs on Spotify. Spotify has redefined how music is monetized with engagement-based monetization, but this has led to major shifts in the music industry such as artists splitting their tracks, producing shorter songs, and naming their content with easily searchable names.
Making Videos for Social Media Marketing
Strategies to aid your marketing
When it comes to opportunities to market your company, we live in an unprecedented age. Long gone are the leaflets and flyers which, short of an expensive TV or radio spot, were the only options for small businesses to advertise their products. Social media has kicked the doors wide open. However, video ads are still proving to be the most effective. Here are some tips for creating social media friendly videos to market your business.
Keep it short. Most people will skip an ad after 5 seconds if they are able, so make your content quick and to the point. Easily consumable content that’s upbeat and declarative performs far better than longer videos. Keep the length 2 minutes at the most and use the same content to create shorter versions for Instagram and Twitter.
Stay relevant. As with all advertising, it’s important to know your audience — and most social platforms make this process fairly simple. Look at the average age and other demographic info of the users who engage with your content to see who you are having the most success with. This will help you craft a video and delivery strategy tailored to your target audience.
Make it clear. Text is a huge aspect of video ads which can often be overlooked. Pretty much every platform will allow you to add captions and text overlays on your videos which will make them easier to consume and highlight the important bullet points of your products. And since 70% of viewers watch ads with the sound on mute, it may be your only chance to reach them.
ABCs of Conflict Resolution
Productivity tips & hacks
Rising tensions can be incredibly harmful to a company culture and spread rapidly throughout your team. This is why it is crucial to always deal with conflict as quickly and efficiently as possible. When giving feedback, don’t think of it in terms of extremes of positive or negative, but as overall beneficial. Apply the ABC method by assessing what you’re aiming for to help this person, what behaviors you’ve observed in them, and what the consequences of those behaviors have been or could be in the future.
